Biography

Dr. Richard A. Green received his undergraduate training at North Park University, Chicago, IL and his dental degree from Northwestern University Dental School, Chicago, IL in 1966.  He spent one year at Denver General Hospital Dental Residency Program, and returned to his hometown of Hinsdale, IL to establish his Private Dental Practice in June 1967. While maintaining his practice for twenty-five years, Dr. Green became involved in the management aspects of dentistry and, in 1981, joined Selection Research, an affiliate of The Gallup Organization, as an Associate; earning numerous Certificates in the Behavioral Sciences. His interest in management led to his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Keller Graduate School, Chicago, IL, in 1992.

Dr. Green was introduced to Dr. L. D. Pankey in 1968 and studied the Pankey Mann Schyler Technique of Oral Rehabilitation and A Philosophy of the Practice of Dentistry with Dr. Pankey, during the years, prior to the formation of The Pankey Institute.  Rich has been associated with The Pankey Institute since its inception, first as a student (Advisory Class September 1972), then as a Visiting Faculty member beginning in 1974, joining The Pankey Institute Faculty, in a full time capacity, as Director of Business Systems Development Department 1994.  During his tenure at The Pankey Institute, he developed the Patient Satisfaction Survey with Donald O. Clifton, PhD at Gallup, numerous processes for the development of individualized business systems, as well as the financial management portion of the Institute’s curriculum. Since May 2004, he has been Director Emeritus, BSDD of The Pankey Institute.  Dr. Green continues to remain active on the Visiting Faculty, Board of Advisors, and presently serves on the Board of Directors of The L.D. Pankey Foundation.

In 2004, Dr. Green founded Evergreen Consulting Group, Inc, which is dedicated to the “Learning and Growing Professional / Serving Those Who Serve Others.”  Through this venue, Rich has continued his commitment to work as coach, confidant, and facilitator of individuals, small personal growth groups focused on individual development in leadership and facilitation, as well as technical study groups focused on bite splint therapy as a way of better understanding the dynamics of mandibular movement and its impact on the individualized prescription of occlusal design for each patient. Rich has a behavioral focus, which is deeply rooted in the “Conceptual Frameworks” and foundations of Dr. L. D. Pankey’s, A Philosophy of the Practice of Dentistry; a “central bearing point” in his work with individuals and groups.

Rich provides guidance concerning the role of values and talents (Strengths) in personal growth, focused on the understanding of self, along with intentional leadership and facilitation development in others.  Additional topics surround transitions in life and practice, personal and practice financial management, wealth accumulation for dentists, team development, market definition and practice positioning, strategic thinking/planning, and human relations, offered in different venues. He is considered one of the profession’s clear and congruent voices on the behavioral aspects of patient care and practice management, as well as the development of a personal philosophy to guide and shape one’s life and practice, from the “inside-out”.

Through his teaching and consulting, Rich provides dentists guidance on leadership development, financial management, team selection and development, practice positioning, market definition, strategic planning, transitions, and human relations. As a dentist with twenty-five years of private practice experience, additional education in the behavioral and management disciplines, extensive business background in the industry and exposure to all types of practices, he has a deep understanding of the challenges of contemporary practice.

Rich resides with his wife Linda in Sanibel, Florida.  They have four grown children and enjoy seven grandchildren.  Personal Coaching, Study Club Mentoring/Facilitation, teaching, writing, biking, walking, swimming, sailing, and singing remain favorite activities.
